Karen, These are three great rules that can apply to a number of situations. In fact, there was an incident in NHL social media circles just yesterday (Nov 26) where they could have helped.

A mediator that had been hired to assist negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA was found to have some insensitive and divisive comments in his Twitter feed that were posted in the past few weeks. His response to the criticism was that his Twitter account had been hacked – that it wasn’t his fault.

This alleged hacking has been widely questioned and discredited. As a result, he was removed from the NHL/NHLPA case.

Unfortunately, the moderator went from someone who had questionable taste to a liar with questionable taste. So I would suggest that these rules, especially rule #3, apply even when there isn’t a camera in your face.

Go Canes! (someday)
